Sexual assault, dating violence, and 家庭暴力 can happen to anyone. 2019年美国大学协会的一项调查显示 on 性侵犯 and misconduct polled over 150,000 学生 at 27 universities. The data revealed 13% of the 学生 had been impacted by some form of nonconsensual 性侵犯.

The 女性的 Center is committed to serving all 学生 by providing accessible, 免费的, 文化主管, and confidential 宣传 and services to all survivors and their allies.

人际暴力(跟踪)的影响, 虐待的关系, and sexual violence) effects all people regardless of their identity.

When 性侵犯 occurs it is devastating to the victim regardless of sex and/or gender. Survivors of sexual violence often blame themselves for the attack(s). 男人, 特别是, may feel that they should have been strong enough to defend themselves against the assault.

All survivors that use the 女性的 Center's services have the right to respectful treatment.

类似的, at ODU there has been a significant change in the international student body over the past several years. 国际 学生 may experience adjustment difficulties due to:

These factors could lead to an increased potential of being victimized.

  • Distrust of law enforcement, the criminal justice system, and social services.
  • Lack of service providers that look like the survivor or share common experiences.
  • Lack of trust based on a history of racism and classism in the United States
  • Fear that their experience will reflect on or confirm the stereotypes placed on their nationality.

LGBTQIA people have several special considerations when coping with 事实上, it is estimated that between 25 and 33 percent of LGBTQIA relationships include abuse, 这一比率与异性恋和异性恋关系的比率相等.

妇女中心认识到这些差异,并致力于为LGBTQIA人群提供无障碍服务, 免费的, 文化主管, and confidential 宣传 and direct services to all survivors and their allies. The 女性的 Center works in collaboration with the Safe Space Committee to work help reduce homophobia,

According to the 2010 National Intimate Partner and Sexual Violence Survey, “与异性恋女性相比,双性恋女性一生中遭受亲密伴侣强奸和其他性暴力的几率明显更高”,“一生中遭受强奸的几率也明显更高”, 身体暴力, and/或跟踪 by an intimate partner when compared to lesbian and heterosexual women."

Some studies indicate that between 20 and 35 percent of LGBTQIA couples experience

Perpetrators often attempt highly specific forms of abuse based on identity and community dynamics,

  • "Outing" or threatening to out a partner's sexual orientation or gender identity to family,
  • Telling the survivor that abusive behavior is a "normal" part of LGBTQIA relationships, or that it cannot be relationship violence because it is occurring between LGBTQIA individuals.
  • Pressure not to report violence to avoid bringing increased stigma or conflict to the community.

人际暴力(跟踪)的影响, 虐待的关系, and sexual violence) effects all people regardless of their identity.

When 性侵犯 occurs it is devastating to the victim regardless of sex and/or gender. 男人 are entitled to the same services and support following a 性侵犯. Survivors of sexual violence often blame themselves for the attack(s). 男人, 特别是, may feel that they should have been strong enough to defend themselves against the assault. They may feel that a "real man" could have avoided the 性侵犯. It is important to help victims understand that they are not to blame. The 女性的 Center recognizes these differences and is committed to male victims by providing accessible,

A 1998 study reviewing research on male childhood sexual abuse concluded that the problems are "common, 低报, 病因, 和under-treated."

Some men may believe they were not raped or that they gave consent because they became sexually aroused, It does not mean that the survivor wanted to be raped or sexually assaulted,

There are many reasons that male victims do not come forward and report being raped, but perhaps the biggest reason for many males is the fear of being perceived as homosexual. 然而, male 性侵犯 has nothing to do with the sexual orientation of the attacker or the victim, 就像性侵犯不会让受害者/幸存者变成同性恋一样, 双性恋或异性恋. It is a violent crime that affects heterosexual men as much as LGBTQ+ men.

ODU 咨询 服务s and the YWCA provides counseling and support services for men.

人际暴力(跟踪)的影响, 虐待的关系, and sexual violence) effects all people regardless of their identity.

The 女性的 Center provides 宣传, services and programs for everyone.

有色人种过去可能经历过种族主义, and this may cause them to distrust the institutions that are designed to help survivors.

妇女中心认识到这一动态,并致力于为有色人种幸存者提供无障碍服务, 免费的, 文化主管, and confidential 宣传 and direct services to all survivors and their allies.

担忧

Each community of color has challenges and circumstances that are unique to its community. 然而, there are common factors that account for many of the barriers survivors of color face as they seek help.

  • Distrust of law enforcement, the criminal justice system, and social services.
  • Lack of service providers that look like the survivor or share common experiences.
  • Lack of trust based on a history of racism and classism in the United States.
  • Fear that their experience will reflect on or confirm the stereotypes placed on their ethnicity.
